Just the other day, one of our office support staff announced with delight that her daughter had begun to walk. We all smiled, most of us remembering our own children’s first steps. I recall how I would cheer my sons’ early wobbling efforts that usually ended in a fall. We took pictures, phoned grandparents with the great news and regaled friends with details of the event. And, celebrations continued after each of their attempts to walk like a “big boy.” Of course, it wasn’t long before they were off and running with excellent control of both legs and feet.
CHAMPS also celebrate their employees’ accomplishments. Recognition is quick and public. At Trinity Services where I work, our frog mascot, Lillie Leapit, shows up during the work day, bestowing balloons, fudge, certificates and a pin on the surprised employee—all in the presence of her co-workers. In fact, if Lillie is spotted in the hallway, people leave their work stations to follow the jolly green frog to the celebration! Everybody smiles, applauds and enjoys the moment of success. The employee, her co-workers, and the mascot are all rewarded for a job well done. Everyone wins.
CHAMPS celebrate your successes publicly.
